Several large banks, such as UBS, Morgan Stanley and Societe Generale, predict that the average price of gold will exceed the level of 2,000 US dollars, much higher than the record high of 1920.30 last September. "Sudden price fluctuations in silver last year temporarily lowered investor interest," said Udelberg analyst Edel Tully. "The market needs new stimuli to encourage more people to enter the market."
"We still don't rule out that silver may again challenge $50 per ounce. Given that we think gold will set a new high in the coming year, silver may also benefit in part," she added.
Analysts believe that silver prices will rise to 35 US dollars per ounce in 2013, higher than this year's price forecast, but still far below the record high of 49.51 US dollars per ounce set last year.
