According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs of China, China's total textile and apparel exports from January to May 2011 amounted to US$88.835 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.55%.
The major increase in exports was mainly due to the significant increase in export product prices over the same period last year.
However, the export growth rate for a single month in May was significantly slower compared with January, March and April.
Under the influence of factors such as high raw material costs, rising labor costs, and escalation of ***, some uncompetitive SMEs have been shut down.
Foreign investors generally have difficulty in accepting price increases of 20% to 30% of domestic export products. Some European and American customers have started to curtail their purchases in China, and some low-end products will be purchased more from Southeast Asia.
