Chemical fiber non-woven fabrics do not limit the new pollution source under the plastic limit

"Recently, some citizens have shared their experiences of finding over a dozen green bags while cleaning their homes, most of which were business gifts. These eco-friendly bags, once seen as a sustainable alternative to plastic, are now raising concerns about their environmental impact. Experts warn that many of these so-called 'eco-bags' are made from chemical nonwoven fabrics, which are not as environmentally friendly as they seem. In fact, they share similar issues with traditional plastic bags—difficulty in degrading at room temperature. Since the implementation of the 'Plastic Restriction Order,' businesses have started using eco-bags as promotional tools. From free shopping bags given with purchases to branded bags handed out during events, these items are colorful, convenient, and widely distributed. However, many consumers now find themselves with an excess of these bags, often discarded due to poor quality or simply because they were given for free. Consumer Liu expressed frustration, saying, 'Non-woven bags tend to tear easily at the corners. If they break so quickly, how can they be considered eco-friendly?' Many users agree that gift bags are often low-quality, with some even worse than regular plastic bags. They lack durability, are not waterproof, and are frequently thrown away after just one or two uses. Experts explain that most eco-bags today are made from polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate, materials similar to those used in plastic bags. While plastic bags are typically made from polyethylene, both polypropylene and polyethylene belong to the group of plastics that do not degrade easily. Moreover, non-woven bags are heavier and bulkier than regular plastic bags, making them harder to recycle. Some even come with decorative elements like buttons or sequins, which further complicate recycling efforts. A factory worker in Harbin told reporters that many companies use eco-bags as promotional gifts. 'Bags covered with plastic films or printed with color are not really eco-friendly. The real cost of producing high-quality eco-bags is much higher,' he said. In response to these concerns, many citizens argue that the 'plastic limit' hasn't truly reduced plastic usage, but instead has led to the rise of non-biodegradable alternatives. They call on authorities to set clear standards for eco-bags and enforce stricter regulations. Experts also warn that non-woven materials are still plastic-based. When used in large quantities and left in the environment, they degrade slowly, potentially creating a new pollution problem worse than plastic bags." (Word count: 502)
