Recently, the archaeological investigation and excavation work in the Miaoshan area of Yanqiao Village, South Street, Tonglu City, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province has basically ended. On the 15th, Zhongxin.com reporter learned from the office of the Tongzi County Cultural Relics Management Committee that 23 tombs were excavated, 5 kiln sites, 1 pot stove, and unearthed cultural and cultural ornaments, copper rods and porcelain. There are more than 40 pieces of pottery equipment, which provide concrete examples for studying the funeral customs of the local Six Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Tonglu is one of the birthplaces of ancient civilization in Zhejiang. As early as 10,000 years ago, there were ancestors who thrived in this land. They lived together and left a rich and splendid prehistoric civilization. At the same time, Tonglu is also an important distribution area of the Neolithic Age in the northwestern part of Zhejiang Province, spanning from Zhangze Culture to Liangzhu Culture, dating from about 6,000 to 4,300 years ago.

A few days ago, the tombs excavated in the Miaoshan area of Yanqiao Village included two six-chao tombs, two five-generation tombs, 15 Song Dynasty tombs, and four Ming and Qing tombs. In the 16th tombs of the Six Dynasties, archaeologists also collected a large number of bricks, and various symbols were engraved on the surface of these bricks, providing concrete examples for studying the funeral customs of the local five to the Song Dynasty.

“These kiln sites are well preserved and distributed, and the tombs of different periods dominated by the Song Dynasty strongly illustrate the long activities of human beings in the Yanqiao area, the wide range of activities, and the high frequency of activities.” Deputy Office of the Cultural Relics Management Committee of Tonglu County Director Liu Zhifang said.

In addition to the tombs, the excavation also cleared five kiln sites, and the age of the kiln site was concentrated in the Five Dynasties and Six Dynasties.

Most of these kiln sites are horseshoe-shaped. The best preserved one is the No. 1 kiln. At the bottom of the kiln site, a number of bricks with the words “large, medium and small” are also unearthed.

According to Liu Zhifang, the three kiln sites that were finally excavated were closely arranged. There is still a collapse relationship between the No. 3 kiln and the No. 5 kiln. This shows that the form of human activities is more diverse in the Yanqiao area.

The time dates back to September 2014. The office of the Tongzi County Cultural Relics Management Committee received a report from the masses. During the excavation construction in the Miaoshan area of Yanqiao Village, Chengnan Street, an ancient tomb was discovered. Therefore, the staff and archaeologists immediately carried out a rescue excavation of the tomb.

The tomb is a double room tomb (the tomb of the couple). The bricks are paved with blue bricks. The tombs are made of two wedge-shaped bricks with different thicknesses. Three relatively complete sauce-colored four-layer pots and one copper-tube residue are unearthed. The three pots have a "fu" in the abdomen. "Shou", the words and patterns of the carcass remain on the pipe, which is very rare.

At the same time, the nails left in the tomb also attracted the interest of archaeologists. The style of the nail is special, the head of the nail is peach-shaped, and there are small hooks. According to the local villagers, the small hooks on the nails were used to decorate the decorative fabrics on the rafters.

This funeral custom is unique to the local and has certain research significance. Archaeological experts based on the tomb shape and workmanship method, combined with the excavation artifacts, roughly inferred that the tomb was the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Since then, Tonglu began a comprehensive investigation and excavation of Yanqiao Miaoshan, which lasted more than four months and has now basically ended.

"Next, we will continue to do a good job of sorting out the follow-up materials, collecting the clean-up work of cultural relics, and improving the information to prepare for further research." Liu Zhifang told reporters.

It is understood that the archaeological investigation and excavation work in the Miaoshan area of Yanqiao Village was jointly carried out by the Hangzhou Cultural Relics and Archaeology Institute and the Tonglu County Cultural Relics Management Committee Office.
