The sensor used by e-skin senses the amount of stretch of the wearer's arm, so it can read the muscle change signal that the camera cannot collect. Using this feature, e-skin can be used in training, health care, games, and more. As of now, e-skin has been able to operate VR game characters.
Xenoma, a startup founded in Tokyo University, Japan, recently released a smart clothing e-skin that detects the state of motion of users.
According to Xenoma's official website, e-skin is equivalent to a next-generation wearable device that captures and tracks user movements without the use of a camera, and can of course be worn as a daily outfit.
The e-skin can be divided into a garment part made of polyurethane fabric and a detachable HUB. The garment is equipped with a sensor that senses the telescopic movement of the garment, and the HUB is responsible for processing the signal and transmitting the processed signal to the computer, mobile phone, tablet, AR, VR device via Bluetooth.
There are 7 sensors on the left and right sides of the e-skin. In addition to sensing the bending and extension of the arm and the shoulder movement, the e-skin can sense the twist of the body and the arm. Even if the sensor is not installed in the abdomen, the HUB is equipped with an accelerometer. The motion sensor and the 6-axis rotary sensor allow you to immediately detect the tilt of the upper body.

In the field of sports, Xenoma is developing an app called SWING to help users practice the correct golf swing posture. E-skin helps students to further improve the action standard through deep learning. It is not to set an absolute value, but to detect the relative value of the expansion ratio, so as to avoid errors caused by physical differences.
Xenoma co-founder and CEO NetSheng Ichiro said: "E-skin's design philosophy is to increase the function of monitoring the body without destroying the function of ordinary clothing. Therefore, as long as the clothing is installed, heart rate, blood sugar, and blood sugar can be detected. Vital signs such as body temperature, predicting the abnormal situation of the body in advance. Although there is only a top, we are preparing to start research and development." The company may even develop equipment that can sense hand movements and finger movements in the future.
As a daily wearable garment, e-skin can of course be thrown into the washing machine for cleaning.
Founded in November 2015, Xenoma received a $185 million financing from Beyond Next Ventures in April last year.
